Tattoos
Dan Carroll
created his first tattoo at age eleven, with a needle, thread,
and a bottle of india ink. Dan continued to practice tattooing
by this method until age seventeen when he learned how to make a
homemade tattoo machine. At nineteen, Dan entered Vesper George
School of Art in Boston, MA, which he attended for three years,
majoring in fine art. Dan finished art school in 1972, spent the
next twenty years or so tattooing underground, then began
tattooing in a studio in 1994.
With his background in fine art, Dan is a master at portrait
work, both black and gray and color. His natural style is
representational and photo realistic, but is comfortable with
all styles. Dan continues to grow as an artist, always striving
total perfection. He finds fulfillment in creating a perfect
tattoo for each client, and complete satisfaction from
practicing his art.

Jay joined
Masterpiece in 2002, at that time he had been tattooing for 18
months professionally. Jay's work has consistently evolved since
that time. Jay is both motivated and dedicated to growing as an
artist. One key ingredient being that Jay understands that you
never stop learning and improving, if you are open minded.
Jay's tattoo work wins the accolades of customers as well as his
peers. His work both astounds and pleases us. Jay's line work is
crisp, clean and defined. His use of colors is bright and
alluring. Jay's custom work is well thought out, well planned
and meticulous; his commitment to quality and detail is
relentless. Jay truly loves to tattoo. Masterpiece is pleased to
have Jay as a member of our team.
Neil apprenticed
for more than a year with Dan Carroll, and has been tattooing at
Masterpiece since 2003. He came to Masterpiece with a background
in graphic arts, pinstriping and sign painting. Given his
background, Neil adapted quickly to tattooing.
With his dedication to quality, it was not long before his
talent and passion for tattooing were evident in his work.
From line work to finished product, Neil's work is masterfully
executed. His line work is solid, sharp and clean; colors
perfectly blended. He is intent and thoroughly focused on each
tattoo he does. Neil's work has progressed remarkably since his
initial training.

Tom joined
Masterpiece in Dec '04, bringing with him an extensive and
diverse artistic background. Tom likes to joke that his drawing
ability was discovered in the third trimester when an ultrasound
detected that his hand had begun to wiggle. Throughout his
school years, Tom pursued his love for art entering and winning
innumerable art contests until he was awarded a scholarship to
the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
After his schooling was complete, Tom went on to work in the
commercial art field for 8 years. In 1999, a friend introduced
Tom to the art of tattooing. He immediately saw another avenue
to pursue and express art, thus Tom embarked on a new career
beginning a tattoo apprenticeship in Rhode Island. Over the
years since, Tom has worked in a number of shops in various
locations throughout the country. Tom loves to tattoo and
strives to give each customer the best work possible.
As his artistic ability lends itself well to tattooing, he feels
tattooing also sharpens his artistic ideas. Viewing each tattoo
as a living canvas, Tom gives his best to each tattoo and each
customer, regardless of the size of the tattoo.
Tom possesses a kind and quiet yet friendly nature which
immediately puts a nervous customer at ease. The combination of
a low-key personality, extensive artistic ability and training,
and his love of tattooing, makes Tom an excellent addition to
the well-rounded, talented Masterpiece team.
Craig began
working at Masterpiece in 2004, coming to us with two years of
tattoo experience. Craig honed and refined his tattoo techniques
under the tutelage of Dan Carroll.
Craig's line work is clean, his colors are bold and solid. He is
meticulous in the preparation of his tattoo work, with
perfection being his goal. Craig's preference is for color work.
Craig enjoys painting, which is translated well in both his use
of color as well as blending of colors in his tattoo work.
On his days away from the studio, Craig can be found in his
boat, fishing pole in hand.

SAMPLE SOME OF
GEORGE'S WORK:
|
George's father was an artist
and though George never knew him (he died when George was a
baby) everyone says that their art styles are very similar.
That's where George got his artistic ability and he started
drawing as soon as he was able to hold a crayon. At age 11
he did his first hand poked tattoo on himself and continued
tattooing this way on his friends.
George took 4 years of a commercial art program while in
high school but in 1996 he got his first real tattoo in a
shop and it was then that he fell in love with tattoos,
tattooing, tattoo shops, and everything about tattooing and
knew that that was what he wanted to do for the rest of his
life. Soon after, he acquired some professional equipment
and began tattooing seriously.
In 2000, after having seen some of George's tattoo work, Dan
& Sue Carroll contacted him and asked him to come in for an
interview. Dan & Sue were impressed and offered George a
position at Masterpiece where he could work in a
professional environment and continue learn and develop his
talent. George has been with Masterpiece off and on since
then and has currently been with us since 2010. He
understands the use of color and of light and shadow and his
work is clean, sharp and bright. Masterpiece is fortunate to
have George continue as part of the team. |
